Who Should Take This Course?
GENUP is the required annual Update course for North Carolina provisional and non-provisional brokers who are subject to continuing education requirements and do not hold BIC or BIC-Eligible status. If you are a designated Broker-in-Charge or hold BIC-Eligible status, you must take BICUP instead—even if you are not currently serving as a BIC. Check your status in your NCREC license record before registering if you are unsure which course you need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this count toward my CE?
Yes. Successful completion satisfies the 4-hour mandatory General Update portion of your 2026–27 North Carolina CE requirement. You must also complete a separate 4-hour approved elective. Complete your required CE by June 10, 2027.
When do I get my certificate?
You will receive a course completion certificate after your attendance and participation have been verified. Encompass reports your completion to NCREC within seven calendar days; you do not need to submit the certificate yourself.
Can I take it on my phone?
No. Encompass requires a desktop, laptop, or comparable tablet with a working camera, audio, and reliable internet connection. Cell phones are not permitted for live Zoom classes.
Does my camera have to stay on throughout the Zoom class?
Yes. Effective July 1, 2026, 21 NCAC 58H .0101(15) requires students in synchronous distance learning courses to remain visible on camera to satisfy attendance requirements. Keep your camera on and yourself clearly visible throughout all instruction; scheduled breaks are excluded. Failure to comply with Encompass’s camera requirements results in no CE credit and no refund, free rescheduling, or transfer credit.
What if I arrive late or need to leave early?
NCREC requires attendance for at least 90% of scheduled instructional time and personal completion of required course work. Missing more than 10% of instruction means no CE credit, and missed time cannot be made up. Any permitted absence requires instructor or provider approval.
